Saura x Saura gathers, in more than 120 photographs taken by Carlos Saura, the key moments in the life of his brother Antonio Saura from 1947 until 1998, the year of his death. A work that interweaves black-and-white moments of joy and pain, states of mind and personal and working stages of both artists. It is pure present: extremely close, intimate and natural images that fight oblivion. A photographic diary of the sixty-eight years of the brothers' relationship, revolutionary in different fields of art. Various snapshots of both can be seen in Huesca, Barcelona, Madrid, Cuenca, London, Paris... with their parents, siblings, wives, children, comrades and friends such as Gustavo Gili or Luis Buñuel. The book is introduced by Mª Ángeles Saura, the sister, and by Carlos Saura himself, and was coordinated by the Fundación Antonio Saura.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
