In this dreamlike variation on Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Tiane Doan na Champassak appropriates the first great classic of literature he read in his childhood and replaces Édouard Riou's emblematic illustrations with his own visual odyssey: 56 photographs of the largest river cave in the world, Xe Bang Faï, in Laos. Photographed on film, the images are treated with unusual substances that corrode and accentuate their fluid surface.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
