Good Morning, America (Volume II) continues Mark Power’s long-term photographic exploration of the United States, documenting a country shaped by political, cultural and social change. Part of an ongoing ten-year project, the book reflects on the contrast between the myth of America and its everyday reality.

For this chapter, Power travelled through rural farming regions, the Great Plains, the Pacific Northwest, the Mexican border and parts of the Rust Belt. The photographs are not arranged by location or chronology, but instead combine images made throughout the project since 2012, creating a shifting and fragmented portrait of the country.

Influenced by the American films and television of his childhood, Power searches for the imagined landscape of the American West while recognising its mythical nature. As an outsider repeatedly travelling across the US, his work offers a personal and constantly evolving perspective on contemporary America.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
