Text by Laetitia Bianchi

On the occasion of the fifth edition of the Photaumnales, Aurore Valade was invited to Beauvais as part of an artistic residency to work on the theme “Inhabited city, urban portraits”.

For several months, she placed advertisements in the local press, met residents, looking for models ready to reenact a scene from their daily and intimate life in a public space, or open to the outside world.

The places and subjects are most of the time left to the choice of the models who represent real or fictional scenes.

Intimacy is expressed through a theatrical game presented as a show populated by characters from ordinary life.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
