Text by François Bon

Photography fascinates, because it proves to us optically, chemically, that what we see exists, at least existed at the precise moment of which the image is the trace. Of course, the art of the photographer is to play on this constraint: we can stage the moment, work on series of times which break it down and so on. There are so many images that prevent us from returning to the reality they suppose: Géraldine Lay calls these flaws.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
