Who has ever heard of the Republic of Conques? From the Kingdom of Elleore? From the Principality of Zealand? From the Crown of Forvik? From the Atlantium Empire? Or from the Consulate of La Boirie?

Who knows that in 2010 Westernica declared war on the Grand Duchy of Flandrensis? That the American Empire was founded by a five-year-old child? That Richard Booth, the King of Hay-on-Wye, is also a bookseller? Or that the President of the Republic of Molossia won a gold medal in the discus throw at the first Microlympic Games in 2000?

So to speak, no one. Because these events find their place in what Roger Brunet described as “the back room of the World”, that of micronations and other cryptarchies, these entities proclaiming themselves an independent Nation or State without being recognized by other official States or large international organizations.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
