Territories of Experiences is an artistic and cultural project carried out, across the department of Ile-et-Vilaine, at the initiative of L'aparté, a contemporary art venue in the Pays de Montfort (community of communes located to the west of the department) and Carré d'Art, photography gallery of the Center Culturel Pôle Sud of Chartres de Bretagne (commune of Rennes Métropole).

It is an exceptional experience which has made it possible to promote the meeting between artists practicing photography and a territory. The result is representations which reflect both the reality of the spaces explored and the aesthetic universe specific to each artist.

The artistic bias was to retain an old technique dating from the 19th century, wet collodion and shooting using a photographic chamber, the intention being to bring out representations that were both documentary and artistic.

The originality of the project is based on the desire to encourage creation in the department through exchanges over a year between invited photographers. It is also based on the international dimension of the event through the invitation made to a Catalan artist.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
