A reissue of the 1973 volume

A reissue of Petersen's first volume, Gröna Lund om människor på ett nöjesfält, published in Stockholm in 1973. Like Café Lehmitz before it, the series was made inside a closed world: one of the oldest amusement parks in Sweden, opened in 1883 on the island of Djurgården.

In re-reading the 1973 edition he shows how his approach has moved: a tighter selection, a more organic energy carry it towards the almost animal sensibility of his later work. The manner is harsh and nervous, the pictures chosen quieter and more melancholy, the euphoria of the fairground drained out of them.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
