Cepeda moved to Lisbon with his family in 2017, after Porto, after early years in the Netherlands and a youth in Coimbra. This is what came of walking the new city: hesitant at first, then accelerating, in bright daylight, at dusk, in the dark, down side streets that lead either up to the glare of the business district or down into the suction of the sewers. He is not describing Lisbon and he is not surveying it. He pushes against it, rubs at it, tries to pierce its body with the camera. What comes out is a ballad of a city as a system, and of collective existence in it.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
