Text "Why revolution is no longer possible" by Byung-Chul Han

Commissioned by the Industrial Association of Porto, the Monument to the Entrepreneur was inaugurated in 1992, by the liberal and conservative Aníbal Cavaco Silva, then Prime Minister. The pictures were taken between 2014 and 2015, as Portugal was coming out of Troika’s supervision (IMF, ECB, and EU), yet still under the effects of the austerity measures. The text “Why revolution is no longer possible”, by Byung -Chul Han, is contemporary with the pictures.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
