Essay by Maura Grimaldi
Design: Joana Durães

fred unfolds as a fragmented visual diary, shaped by nights, encounters and bodies moving through the city. The pictures inhabit an ambiguous territory between lived experience and staging, between person and persona, tracing a fluid identity in constant transformation. Moving between performances, domestic scenes and urban wanderings, it brings together gestures and situations without hierarchy, like visual notes accumulated over time. Exploring desire, projection and vulnerability, it offers an open portrait in which intimacy never settles, shifting continuously between looking and being looked at.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
