Harshly affected by austerity, radically transformed by tourism and by the financialisation of housing, Lisbon has undergone profound changes over the last decade. Photographing the city today, between what it has become and what it is becoming, makes it possible to illuminate the blind spot that is the present and to reflect on its state. The volume brings together six photographic essays and three literary essays that introduce a plurality of ways of seeing and, in doing so, bring our representations of the capital right up to date.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
