A song of love in images and words to those misunderstood souls who find refuge in stories. A beautiful tale about the tiny, the strange and what is about to disappear. Its pages form a polyphony of voices in which trees, magpies, abandoned objects, villagers and marginal people such as Vicente and the Little Lady who loved insects sing a song of rhythms and scents. The mining village of El Centenillo (Jaén) rises and talks with us, the viewers, through the photographs of Laura C. Vela and the poetic prose of Suso Mourelo. The two did not know each other until El Centenillo brought them together: Laura had pieces of her childhood there, Suso a piece of his future. For years they returned again and again, sometimes together, sometimes apart, to feel and tell the small stories of a world that is fading.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
