With extracts from Un ABC de la barbarie by Jacques-Henri Michot

"This exhibition is a poetic, abstract and fragile attempt to translate something of our time. Something undefinable, intangible, but which we recognise as the state of one man, of several or of all: being in suspense. What is shown here is the suspense of men relegated outside history, outside the landscape, surviving in a political no man's land: deserted territories, bodies at a standstill, isolated or swept away, without anchorage. The space has closed up. The faces have disappeared, and so has the complicity of looks." — Diane Dufour. Borrowing the plainness of the monochrome fanzine, the publication unfolds as a continuous flow of pictures, like a suspended trace of the works in the exhibition; extracts from Un ABC de la barbarie, Jacques-Henri Michot's inventory of the stereotypes of media language that contaminate daily life, filter through the pages.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
