The pictures, and the text by Martin Amis, guide us through the land of pornography: actors capable of extraordinary performances (though not quite Actors Studio), directors able to shoot a whole film in a day, improvised sets, almost non-existent plots and scenery always the same. The journey, with stops in Berlin, Budapest, Paris, Tokyo and Los Angeles, is free of easy moralism, hasty judgement or longing for redemption: it tells with wonder and sincere respect, sometimes amusement and irony, a little-known world of soft colours and savage crudity, twisted bodies and bursts of laughter, unexpected tenderness and situations bordering on the absurd.
