An inside portrait of the film industry by a veteran character actor. Although primarily known for acting, a career began working as a musician, first as the original drummer of a seminal band, later performing throughout the early 1980s with a NYC funk collective. It was around this period that a director cast him alongside another actor in a breakout 1984 film. Since then a long and successful movie career has followed, appearing in over a hundred films, throughout which a keen interest in the medium was nurtured but held back from, feeling it distracted from the primary responsibility of acting; when cast in two films shot in the Philippines and Nicaragua respectively, however, these were opportunities that couldn't be passed up. Combining a high-contrast format with a first-hand insider viewpoint, a unique behind-the-scenes perspective of film-making is assembled that is unsurpassed in scope. Taken over a thirty-year period and entirely shot on black-and-white film, portraits of famous friends and colleagues are featured from in front of and behind the camera. Documenting the dramatic as well as the mundane, the full spectrum of production is presented, from the exotic and creative process of shooting on location to the not-so-glamorous necessity of promoting films at festivals, press junkets and countless interviews: in the end, a portrait of an industry as well as a life contained within it.
