Recognised for inventive and honest portrayals of adolescent life that go against prevailing norms found in most mainstream publications, choosing to primarily work with teenage subjects over extended periods of time to create intimate and unselfconscious views that would be impossible to achieve through one sitting. An earlier book was a large collection of teenage street portraits made for editorial and commissioned projects; this latest publication focuses its attention on four young women from three different countries. Broken into three chapters, the book opens with two sets of frames of one subject taken two years apart, before moving on to two sisters, and concluding with a young student. It's obvious looking over each chapter that although these subjects have much in common, the inherent differences of their respective cultures have had an enormous impact on how they've presented themselves within each location. Created over a number of years, this is a poetic and honest representation of adolescent life, calling to mind short documentary films of the 1970s that strived to penetrate the real story behind the headline, skilfully presenting not only the ephemeral beauty of the moment but the ever-changing conditions that culture, environment and fashion have in forming one's social identity.
