The debut book by the Russian performance artist Angela Nikolau brings together new and existing work rooted in the roof-topping movement and in the spirit of outsider art. Through self-portraiture Nikolau documents her ascents of skyscrapers, structures widely seen as symbols of capitalism and corporate power, exploring feminine strength and the relationship between architecture and the human form. Performance and collaboration with her partner Ivan Beerkus are fundamental, and the work sits at the intersection of urban exploration, extreme sports, contemporary photography and digital subcultures. Organised chronologically, in a narrative that resembles a road trip, the book presents more than 100 works and is designed to reflect the verticality of the towers she has explored.
