A retrospective journey through the work of Alberto García-Alix between 1977 and 1998, with about a hundred and fifty images that reveal one of the most singular and fertile careers in Spanish photography of the last quarter of the century. His creative experience, which includes 33 solo exhibitions since 1981, unfolds as a poetic narrative: his particular journey to the bottom of the night. A constant autobiographical determination drove him to document the chronicle of his time through portraits, among which his own often appears. Out of roughly a hundred thousand negatives, three approaches can be distinguished, one for each of the last three decades: the early period, mostly 35 mm work; the eighties, with a sophisticated composer of frames; and the late nineties, with an increasingly cold gaze. The book also contains a chronology, a bibliography, a selection of critical texts and reflections by eight authors.
