The book invites us to penetrate the heart of matter, to the earth’s mantle, to discover what happens during an earthquake: fusion, dilation, fragmentation and explosion. Under the effect of heat, rocks metamorphose and reveal mysteries invisible to the naked eye. The project is the fruit of a collaboration between the photographer and geophysics researcher Alexandre Schubnel, who reproduces seismic conditions in the laboratory.
