In 1978 Susan Meiselas travelled to Nicaragua to photograph the Sandinista Revolution and realised that without colour she could not truly see the places and people. Working close to the action without a telephoto lens, she captured daily life, street battles and guerrillas in the mountains; she returned ten years later, in 2004 and in 2018 to explore memory. The book offers the first comprehensive look at forty years of her work there.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
