The first photobook by the Mexican photographer Claudia López Ortega, long kept as a hidden gem, is about love and the touch of madness in her experience of motherhood. In her family there are things impossible to talk about, secrets and looks, questions about the female lineage that are never addressed; her daughter Victoria dared to accompany her and express, in her own way, the feelings rooted deep inside generations: the sadness, loneliness and distance between mother and daughter. Fiction and reality combine to capture moments in suspended space — a girl, mermaids, the sea, water and the body — in two books under a coloured transparent vinyl sleeve.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
