The book contains panoramic photographs of today's Rotterdam and Dresden, always placed side by side: a parallel travel guide of two traumatised sister cities that are being rebuilt. In Otto Snoek's words, the two are cities with hidden parallels, and an image of one can be folded to unfold in the other, from the innermost past to the present. Walking all corners of the cities, an imaginary map seems hidden under the real one, loaded with memories of a past that are not directly the photographer's own but make themselves known to him.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
