Born in Ukraine and expatriated to France at a very young age, Sofiya Loriashvili takes her country of birth as the anchor point of her documentation. Returning every year to see her family and loved ones, she documents her country through the lens of her own evolution. Carrying her camera everywhere she goes — including to the psychiatric hospitals and rehab centres where she is admitted — it becomes both a weapon and a reason for being. In this way she documents the communities she lives in, in a raw and unfiltered manner. By forming intimate connections with her subjects, she is compelled to become part of them in order to photograph them. This is how, in 2022, she started a new job at a Parisian strip club.
