Through declassified American archives relating to unidentified aerial phenomena (PAN or UAP in English) for the period 1947-1969, this project offers an iconographic journey exploring the visual and contextual documents which marked the creation of a ufological imagination.

Coming from military and government investigations (Sign, Grudge, Blue Book), these images embody a paradox: both traces of an elusive phenomenon and supports of a story that is beyond us. They inscribe in the photographic material the strangeness of a world whose existence we might not yet have the tools to understand.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
