Essay by Tom Holert

For almost thirty years the artist has been building new pictorial worlds of abstract photography with his Silver works, which sound out and expand the boundaries of what photographic processes can represent. Brought together for the first time in a single volume, he describes the pictures as stained, impure, bright, unstable, exhausted, fugitive, smeared, shimmering, as solid colours; alongside them he shows the Silver works in exhibition settings, as elements of installations or as pure Silver installations. An accompanying essay discusses the philosophical, aesthetic and material questions they raise.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
