Dorothy Bohm's links with Sussex go back to June 1939, when on the cusp of turning fifteen she was sent to the safety of England by her Lithuanian-Jewish parents and attended a small school in the village of Ditchling. From the mid-1960s, after her husband bought a working farm near Billingshurst in West Sussex, the family escaped London life almost every weekend for more than twenty years. Armed with a Rolleiflex and a wryly affectionate outsider's eye, she caught the low-key but lyrical beauty of the countryside and moments in the lives of local people, at work and more often at leisure. A selection was shown at Pallant House Gallery in 2018; this is the first time any of it has been gathered in a volume.
