A photographic study made over twelve months in collaboration with the hairdressers Lucas Wilson, Jimmy Paul and Sonny Molina, Ethan James Green's second book explores the spirit of the bombshell. Popular culture has used the word for a blonde, buxom woman with sex appeal; Green subverts that tired stereotype by inviting a diverse array of friends to interpret and question it with their own clothes and props, posing however they feel comfortable. Continuing the uncompromising black-and-white portraits of friends in New York for which he is known, the book is a collaboration between subjects and photographer. It stars faces such as the artist Connie Fleming, Interview fashion director Dara Allen, fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and the actress Hari Nef, who is on the cover. A selection of Polaroids from the project was first published as a zine by Dashwood Books, New York.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
