"Noises in the mountains have nothing in common with the sounds you hear everywhere else. Isolation is not the only cause of this phenomenon, because in the middle of the sea or in the middle of the desert it is something completely different. The sand and water move, the mountains are motionless, although it is said that they may have flown away in the past. From there, no doubt, this silence, so heavy, produces a spoiled space, a hardened vapor that absorbs all noise." (Gilles A. Tiberghiend)

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
